ReefMaker deployed 15-foot and eight-foot concrete pyramid structures at new Gulfside Network sites in the Florida Keys. Crews used vessel thrusters and a GPS beacon on the crane to position each module, then divers surveyed the placement in difficult underwater visibility.
The limestone-studded structures include open tops and internal plates that create habitat at several scales. Monroe County plans to monitor marine life and tagged fish across the network, testing how different reef designs support resident and migratory species.
