Destination Panama City announced plans for a public snorkeling reef behind its downtown visitor center on St. Andrews Bay. The proposal calls for 50 EcoSystems units made with concrete discs, embedded Florida limestone and fiberglass pilings.
Walter Marine submitted the construction and deployment proposal for the project. Organizers intend the reef to restore habitat in an area affected by historical dredging while creating a new waterfront experience for residents and visitors. Tourist development funds and private donations would support the work.
