Alabama Power and ADCNR Team Up to Build Offshore Reefs
Outdoor Alabama covers Walter Marine's precise deployment of retired power poles and tower sections as new offshore habitat.

Alabama Power and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources reused end-of-life concrete poles and steel tower sections in the Blankenship Reef Zone. Walter Marine deployed the material in a crossed arrangement intended to create vertical relief and many small habitat spaces.

The partnership also supported deployment of the remediated tugboat William Lee. Both projects added different structure types to Alabama's offshore reef network while keeping reusable industrial material out of landfills.
