The Famous Black Pearl Becomes a Local Sunken Treasure
WJHG covers Walter Marine's towing and controlled sinking of the Black Pearl as a new dive reef in Bay County.

Walter Marine towed and deployed the 97-foot steel Black Pearl southwest of St. Andrews Pass in November 2025. The former movie prop settled in about 75 feet of water as a new public site for diving and fishing.

Students at Tom P. Haney Technical College added welded details, including flags, cannons, a wheel and a treasure chest, before the deployment. Bay County tourism and dive partners planned the project as both marine habitat and an interactive underwater attraction.
